Cloves are native to the Molucca Islands, Indonesia.
This spice has been used for more than thousands years. The earliest references to cloves says that the Chinese, in order to show respect to the emperor, they had to chew a few Cloves to sweeten their breath.
In that time Cloves were extremely expensive and it played an important part in world's history.
As amazing as it may sounds, wars were fought over that spice to secure rights to the profitable Clove business. The population of Molucca Islands planted Clove's trees for each born child. They had the believe that the destiny of the tree was directly linked to the child's.
Around 1816, the Dutch invaders set fires to destroy Clove trees and profit from the rise of prices. The natives obviously revolted with that procedure and engaged in a bloody battle which changed the climate and politics of the area forever.
